Plastering and GIB stopping for Wellington & the Hutt Valley

Smooth walls make the paint job. We stop, skim, repair and sand so walls and ceilings are flat and sound, then paint them, so you only need one team.

What's included

Plastering and repair work we do

GIB stopping

Joints, corners and screw heads on new plasterboard stopped and sanded ready for paint.

A thin coat of plaster over the whole wall or ceiling to hide old texture, patches and uneven surfaces.

How it works

How a plastering job runs

  1. Assess

We look at the surface and agree the finish you need.

  2. Stop or skim

Plaster applied in coats, allowing each to dry properly.

  3. Sand

Sanded smooth, with dust controlled and the room protected.

  4. Seal and paint

Sealer, then top coats, by the same team.

Plastered and painted by one team

Paint does not hide a poor surface. Light from a window shows every joint, ridge and patch. Getting the plastering right is what makes a painted wall look flat and finished.

Because we plaster and paint, there is no gap between trades and no argument about whose job the last sanding was. Recent work includes a bathroom GIB finish and plaster in Wallaceville, plastering and painting in Churton Park, and a strip, skim and paint in Roseneath.

We take on small repairs as well as full rooms, renovations and new builds.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the difference between GIB stopping and a skim coat?

Stopping fills and smooths the joints and screw heads on plasterboard. A skim coat covers the whole surface with a thin layer of plaster, which is used when the wall is uneven, patched or textured.

Do you plaster and paint, or just one?

Both. Most customers have us plaster and then paint, but we also do plastering on its own.

Can you fix a crack that keeps coming back?

Often, yes. Recurring cracks usually need to be opened up, taped and re-plastered, not just filled. If it looks like movement in the building, we will say so.

Is plastering messy?

Sanding makes dust, so we cover floors and furniture, close off the room where we can and clean up when we finish.
